Getting started

Connect ChatGPT or Claude with one prompt or the setup page, log a first meal, see what is left to set up and what is free.

Gutlog lives inside the AI assistant you already use. You connect it once, then share a photo of a meal and say “log this”. There is nothing to install and no card to enter: Free includes unlimited logging from your assistant.

1. Connect your assistant

The quickest way is to let your assistant do it. Paste this into ChatGPT, Claude or any agent that can read a web page:

Set up Gutlog for me: read https://getgutlog.com/setup.md and follow it.

It reads the setup guide, walks you through the few clicks your app needs and signs you in in your browser. If you would rather click through it yourself, the setup page has the steps for ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and any MCP client, with one-click links where the app supports them.

2. Log your first meal

Take a photo of your plate and send it with “log this”. A sentence works too (“two eggs on toast with butter”), and so does the barcode of anything packaged. Your assistant replies in one line with what was logged and asks about at most three things it was unsure of, such as butter in the pan or garlic in a sauce. See logging meals.

3. Ask what is left

Ask “what is left to set up?” and your assistant calls get_onboarding: a five-step checklist (connect an assistant, log a meal, scan a barcode, log how you feel, start a program) with the next step spelled out. The same list is on the dashboard.

What is free

Free is the whole database through your own assistant: logging, food search, barcode lookups, edits, symptoms, the pantry, every read of your diary and exports, over MCP, the CLI and the API, with your whole history. Your assistant reads photos and labels itself, in chat.

Plus ($8 a month or $60 a year) is Gutlog doing the work: the app on web and phone, reminders, recipes and meal plans, diary audits, trigger analysis, guided elimination diets, the weekly report and 50 photo analyses a day on our model. See pricing.
